Thread-exclusive Sensor

New Sensor for the Smart Home from Ikea

Ikea expands its Home Smart platform with a new sensor that relies on Thread.

Ikea continues to strengthen its focus on smart homes by introducing the Timmerflotte sensor. This is according to documentation from the American FCC. The function of the sensor is to combine temperature and humidity measurement. The sensor is round, battery-powered, and designed for wall mounting.

Previously, Ikea's products primarily used the Zigbee or Wi-Fi protocols, but according to the documentation, Timmerflotte communicates solely via the Thread protocol. This means it will require Ikea's newer Dirigera gateway to function optimally. Thanks to support for Matter, it can also be integrated with other compatible systems.

Price and launch date are still unclear.
