Find out what the internet says about you - free service can find and delete information

Most people have probably tried Googling their own name at some point, to see what comes up. In cases where it involves personal information, such as name, phone number, and home address, Google has a special tool to give you better control.

Sweden is quite a unique country in the sense that much of our personal information can be found online, publicly for everyone to see. This is not the case in many other countries. But here in Sweden, there are sites like Hitta.se, Mrkoll, Ratsit, Birthday.se, and so on, where you can find many details about yourself and any other person.

The Google app has a tool to both find the sites on the internet where your personal information is located and then request that it be removed. You can find the tool in the settings menu. A request is then sent to Google to remove the information from Google's search results. This does not affect the source itself, the website where the information is located. Once you have sent your request, Google examines whether the removal of the information meets their policy, and if it does, you will be informed that the information is excluded from Google's search results.

When you have entered your full name, phone number, and address in Google's tool for this, you will receive a list of sites found where this information is published after a few hours, and then you will receive notifications if Google finds new sites in the future.

This tip is an excerpt from a longer article about the Google app, which can do much more than you think. You can find the app here for Android and here for iPhone, and the article was previously published exclusively for Plus members on Mobil.se.
