It's starting to get crowded...

Another AI company wants to buy Chrome

The AI-driven search engine Perplexity is also interested in buying Chrome if Google is forced to sell.

In the ongoing trial regarding Google's search monopoly, Dmitry Shevelenko, business manager at Perplexity, has stated that they are interested in purchasing the Chrome browser. If a court decides that Google must sell Chrome as part of a legal action, Shevelenko believes that Perplexity can run the browser without compromising its quality or starting to charge for it.

At the same time, Shevelenko is sceptical about seeing Chrome being purchased by other players, such as OpenAI. According to Shevelenko, it could potentially change or degrade the open model of Chromium, the software that Chrome is based on.

Whether Google will be forced to sell Chrome or not remains to be seen as the trial is still ongoing.
