Spotlight on stage for Android

Android 16 to be showcased on its own Google show in May

Android gets its own event in the form of "The Android Show: I/O Edition" even before Google I/O 2025.

Google presents a new digital event titled "The Android Show: I/O Edition", a dedicated show for Android given as a preview ahead of their annual developer conference, Google I/O 2025. The pre-recorded event will be broadcast on YouTube on 13 May at 19:00 Swedish time and is intended to give users and developers an early insight into the innovative updates and features that are set to be launched. Despite the event taking place separately from the main conference, Google emphasised that Android will maintain a central role during Google I/O, which officially starts on 20 May. The purpose of the dedicated show is to further highlight Android news at a time when the platform is experiencing a number of interesting development steps.

Sameer Samat, who is the president of the Android ecosystem at Google, will host the broadcast. During the show, he will present important news and provide an in-depth presentation of the new experiences and technical improvements that are underway. Through this format, where preview information is shared with viewers, Google aims to create increased anticipation ahead of the more comprehensive Google I/O conference, where further surprises and detailed sessions are planned.
