Top class in almost everything

Review: Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro - World class

With Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, Samsung achieves top class in almost every aspect.

A comfortable fit with effective noise cancellation, high-resolution sound for music, and fantastic call audio are combined with a unique design. There is not much to complain about when Samsung releases a new and improved version of their best headphones.

A conscious and thoughtful design, regarding the headphones and the case itself as well as how the headphones work with the phone and software, makes my impression of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro very positive.

Design with brushed metal

Starting with the headphones themselves, Samsung manages to create a directly recognisable design, something that gives the headphones a unique appearance, and not many manufacturers do or even try. The brushed metal on the stem gives a luxurious impression, and there are gestures to control music and volume. You pinch the stem to, for example, pause or change tracks and swipe along the edge to increase or decrease the volume. It might be a bit difficult to reach there, so a swipe on the clean metal surface on the outside might have been easier.

The headphones work with all Android phones because the Galaxy Wearable app is available for download on phones other than just Samsung. Buds 4 Pro can of course also be connected to iPhone and other Bluetooth devices, but then you do not have access to the features in the app. With all this said, it is clear that the headphones work best with a modern Samsung in the flagship class. For example, it is only then that you get access to Samsung's own and truly high-resolution audio transmission, and when I, using the Galaxy S26 Ultra, among several phones, when I test, can, for example, record video with the phone and then get 3D sound because the headphones can then be used as microphones for it.

A little extra when connected to a Samsung mobile

Especially convenient and with higher sound quality if you connect to a Samsung mobile

In the Samsung mobile, I get the settings for the headphones as part of the regular settings menu without first having to download any special app. Looking at the whole picture, the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro are very well integrated into Samsung's ecosystem of products.

The music sound in the headphones is very good. It is well balanced and the detail is very precise. Especially the bass is distinct and rich without taking over. Of course, you can set your own sound preferences in the app's equaliser so that you get the sound you prefer. When I activate Samsung's own SSC format where you get high-resolution sound in 24-bit 96 kHz, it sounds noticeably better, but even without that mode activated, which only works on Samsung's later flagships, it also sounds good.

Effective noise cancellation and excellent call sound

Good noise cancellation, for example on board planes. However, the stem is designed to lie close to the skin, making the pinch gesture for adjusting the volume tricky.

During the test period, I have the opportunity to test the headphones in a variety of contexts. On planes, in noisy office environments, and out in different environments, with more or less noise. In all these contexts, the noise cancellation is effective, at a level where the headphones rank among the few that are the best we've tested. On the plane, which is a classic place to test noise cancellation and also a place where noise cancellation is really useful, it is clear and effective. The same goes for noisy environments where others are talking around me.

I become particularly impressed by the call quality when I go outside and make a call while standing next to roadworks and have a conversation without any problems as a large coach passes by. The person I'm speaking to doesn't even notice that I'm calling from a noisy environment and is a bit puzzled as to why I'm apologising for it. Even in quieter environments, the call quality is noticeably clear, and it really feels like the person I'm talking to is very close.

Galaxy Buds 4 Pro is an almost obvious choice if you have a Samsung phone and a good choice even if you have another phone.
