Easier mobile changes

Soon Google may back up your mobile number

Google One may offer backup of SIM data.

A simple way to back up a large portion of the content on an Android mobile is to use Google's service One. This service could become even more comprehensive in the future by also including the backup of SIM data, which would simplify the restoration of Android phones. Today, SMS among other things are backed up, while SIM information is not included in the service.

It is program code in a beta version of Google Play Services that suggests the company is exploring the possibility of adding SIM data - primarily for eSIM, but potentially also physical SIM cards. This according to the publication Android Authority. The function would thus offer an easier way to restore a device's data, especially in connection with the increasing use of eSIM.

If the feature is implemented, the new backup function will be included in Google One's paid subscription service. Exactly when or if the feature will be launched remains to be seen.
