The sound mode switch disappears

Oneplus replaces classic switch with new button - fans are upset, again

The switch for changing sound mode disappears and is replaced by a button that will adapt to the user.

OnePlus has announced that they are replacing the current physical slider, used to switch between different sound modes, with a new physical button. The company's founder and CEO, Pete Lau, writes on the company's website that the decision is based on the fact that a button offers greater flexibility and a more personalised user experience. The previous slider will thus be phased out from OnePlus models. Exact dates for when the new button will be launched have not yet been announced, and he also does not say which will be the first model with the new button.

On the website Lau writes that “Imagine a button that adapts to you. Whether you are a power user or prefer simplicity, this button works for you, not the other way around. Wherever life takes you, it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle. It is an innovation that is not only smart but also intuitive.”

He also writes that the change allows them to better utilise the device's space, explore new layouts, and make structural improvements while performance remains top-notch.

Fans are outraged

The initial reactions from users have been strongly negative. This particular physical slider has a long history with OnePlus. The company previously removed it in the OnePlus 10T a few years ago, also with major protests from users. Then OnePlus made a complete turnaround and reintroduced the slider in the upcoming model with great fanfare.

Now Oneplus is making another attempt to get rid of the switch that they feel is old and needs to be replaced with something newer, better.
