The Final Chapter in the Solution

Factory Reset Chromecast - Here is Google's Tool to Save It

Extensive problems with Chromecast are now on their way to being resolved. If you have tried to factory reset, there is now a solution available to save your device.

Google's extensive Chromecast problem was a breakdown that started just over a week ago. After Google released a bug fix a few days ago, they announced that those who had factory reset their Chromecast or Chromecast Audio to resolve the issues would need to wait further for a solution. Now it is here.

The solution comes in the form of an updated version of the Google Home app for both Android and iOS. By downloading and updating to the latest version (Version 3.30.1.6 for Android or version 3.30.106 for iOS), it should be possible to reinstall your Chromecast without issues. The iOS app is available now, while the Android app seems to be rolling out gradually and should appear soon if you haven't already received it.

Google's Chromecast stopped working on Sunday, March 9, and speculation has suggested that it was an expired security certificate that caused the stoppage. Google themselves have not confirmed this or provided any explanation for the issues that arose.

At the end of last week, Google solved the problem for those who had not factory reset their devices. This update was done with the help of software that was automatically downloaded to Chromecast as long as it was connected. However, this update could not be sent to factory reset devices because the update required the device to be on and connected to the internet.
