Google is preparing for a new era in smart homes by retiring two proven smart home products. The company is now discontinuing Nest Protect, the smart smoke and carbon monoxide alarm from 2013, and replacing it with a similar solution from First Alert that is fully integrated with the Google Home app. At the same time, Google is also withdrawing the Nest x Yale Lock and, together with Yale, is now launching a new smart lock with Matter support that promises continued security and seamless use within the Google ecosystem. These changes mark a clear signal that Google is aiming for a future with upgraded, more advanced smart home solutions.

These are the latest products that Google is retiring after previously discontinuing, among other things, the Chromecast streaming devices in favour of the Google TV Streamer.
