Classic Smartwatch Pebble is Back

Now, two new smartwatches based on the venerable Pebble are coming in the form of the new version, Repebble.

Earlier this year, Google released the source code for the Pebble smartwatch, which was one of the pioneers for smartwatches in the mid-2010s. This has led to the creation of Repebble, a community-driven initiative that keeps the legacy of Pebble watches alive. Now, two brand new models are being introduced that run the open operating system PebbleOS, making them compatible with thousands of existing Pebble apps.

Core 2 Duo can be described as an updated version of the previous Pebble 2 with an almost identical design. The watch is equipped with a 1.26-inch black and white e-paper display, a robust polycarbonate frame, and a standard 22 mm strap. However, it has several improvements compared to its predecessor, including a battery life of up to 30 days (compared to 7 days previously), improved Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated speaker, as well as quieter but stronger vibrations and more reliable buttons. More advanced sensors such as a barometer and compass have also been added. It also has an IPX8 rating.

The second model is called Core Time 2 and is a more exclusive variant with a larger 1.5-inch e-paper display supporting 64 colours and is made of metal. It also features a touchscreen, heart rate monitor, microphone, speaker, step and sleep tracking, as well as the same robust IPX8 water resistance and 30-day battery life. Just like Core 2 Duo, Core Time 2 also has a standard 22 mm strap.

Repebble Core 2 Duo has a price tag of 150 dollars, while Repebble Core Time 2 costs 225 dollars. Both watches are launched in limited editions and will only be available via pre-order at store.repebble.com
