Storage Full? New way to save space in Google Photos

A new tool has been introduced to make more storage space available in Google Photos.

Full in Google Photos, what to do?

Question: Apparently, I have too many photos in Google Photos, so it no longer backs up. What can I do about it?

Erik Mörner answers: A convenient way to save space in Google Photos, which is relatively new and wasn't available before, is the ability to let Google Photos reduce the resolution of already saved images. When you set up Google Photos initially, you always have the option to back up in original quality or to save storage space. The latter option means that the resolution is reduced to 16 megapixels and for video to 1080p, and the content itself is compressed.

If you already have photos and video clips in full resolution, you can ensure that Google compresses them. You can do this via the web version of Google Photos. You can find the option to free up storage space and convert existing photos and videos here: https://photos.google.com/quotamanagement
