Best of both worlds?

New foldable from Huawei combines the two dominant design options

Huawei twists traditional solutions with the new Pura X mobile.

Foldables usually, with very few exceptions, have one of two different designs for how they fold - either vertically, which is often called “flip”, or like a book, which is often called “fold”.

Now Huawei has presented a mobile they call Pura X where, in practice, they haven't invented anything new but have come up with a new way to use existing technology. With Pura X, they have simply taken a flip phone and rotated it 90 degrees to what can be described as a flip-fold.

Pura X offers an inner 6.3-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 16:10 and an outer 3.5-inch screen, whose diagonal measurement means a significantly larger screen area than comparable models. When the device is unfolded, it can be used both as a wide smartphone and in landscape mode similar to a tablet, with the hinge placed along the left side. You also don't need to open the mobile to answer calls but can keep it in the folded position.

Both screens are OLED panels of the LTPO type with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 2500 nits. The camera system consists of three sensors on the back - alternatively on the outer panel - as well as an extra front camera for the inner screen. The device is powered by a 4720 mAh battery with support for charging up to 66 W.

Huawei Pura X will be launched in China, but nothing has been said about whether it will also be launched internationally.
