Graphics updated with overdrive

Pixel phones faster after new update

New drivers are expected to significantly improve graphics performance according to new test figures.

Google has released an update that, according to test results on the Geekbench website, improves GPU performance in Pixel phones using Tensor chips. Several users report that their devices, both those with Android 16 beta and the latest stable Android 15 version, show higher scores in Geekbench tests, especially when the Vulkan API is used.

The current updates include new GPU drivers that are believed to be behind a performance increase of up to 62 percent on the Pixel 7a and over 30 percent on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9. The improvements suggest that everyday tasks, including machine learning, could potentially become even more efficient - although it remains to be seen how this is reflected in real-time applications.

Google itself has not said anything about these performance increases, but they coincide with the company's latest so-called Pixel Drop and the latest Android 16 beta.
