Siri hit by problems

Apple delays new Siri - planned smart home hub postponed

The new and more personal version of Apple's digital assistant is postponed. This means that the planned smart home hub will also have to wait.

Apple's work on the new generation of its digital assistant Siri continues to encounter problems and is now facing significant delays. Apple has previously stated that the new features are expected to arrive in 2025, with some of them coinciding with the launch of iOS 18. Features that Apple has mentioned as examples include giving the Siri assistant the ability to utilise other apps to, for instance, complete tasks by using information stored on Apple devices. It should also be able to bring up a podcast recommended by a friend or retrieve flight tracking information sent by a relative.

Apple now reports that some of the features have been delayed and will not be launched until sometime in 2026. However, they have not disclosed what has caused the delays, nor have they detailed which features are affected.

According to Bloomberg's Marc Gurman, this also means that the planned smart home hub, a kind of control centre for smart devices, a mounted iPad, is postponed. According to Gurman, it was originally supposed to be launched this March, but since it largely relies on features in the new Siri, it is therefore postponed.
