Tele2 and Telenor reach milestone with their 5G network

After years of intensive work, Telenor and Tele2 have reached the point where the 5G network has coverage as good as the existing 4G network.

With their joint network, Tele2 and Telenor now offer 5G coverage where 90 percent of the population lives. This is the same coverage level that their joint 4G network already offers. Of this area, 70 percent consists of 5G in the 3.6 GHz band, which provides the highest possible speed up to one gigabit.

Tele2 and Telenor aim for the network to cover 99 percent of the population, so the expansion continues continuously. Calculations on coverage in these contexts when referring to the population are based on registered addresses. Among other operators, Telia today covers 94 percent of the population, while Tre's 5G network recently reached up to 80 percent. Tre and Telia are building their own networks, while Tele2 and Telenor share a joint one.

Tele2 was the first to launch 5G in Sweden, but has since built a joint 5G network with Telenor, where the existing 4G network they also share has been upgraded and replaced.

- After three years of intensive work, we are now approaching the completion of our largest network expansion ever. With the latest technology and brand new equipment, we can offer our customers a fast, stable, and energy-efficient network. This is the world-class connection of the future, and we are proud to deliver it today, says Björn Lindberg, network expert at Tele2.
