Almost new smartwatch for kids

Google releases new version of Wear OS

Galaxy Watch 7 becomes a smartwatch for kids with new version of Wear OS.

A few years ago, Samsung and Google collaborated to create the new generation of Wear OS for wearable devices such as smartwatches. Now they have been at it again and developed a new variant of the operating system called Galaxy Watch for Kids.

This child-friendly version of Wear OS "converts" a regular Galaxy Watch 7 LTE, meaning it can connect to the mobile network, into one with built-in parental controls. After installing an eSim in the watch, the Galaxy Watch 7 LTE becomes a standalone device that does not require the child to have a mobile phone.

It can theoretically switch to a regular smartwatch when you later buy a mobile phone for the child.

Instead, a parent can use Google Family Link to monitor the child's limited Google account so that they can only call or send text messages to approved contacts. It is also possible to approve or block Wear OS apps and set up a school time window during which they cannot use any distracting apps or features. Like many other smartwatches for children, the Galaxy Watch for Kids allows you to track your child's location in real-time at any time using the built-in dual-band GPS.

A variety of apps for children will also be launched, including those for different physical activities.

Galaxy Watch for Kids will initially be available in the USA in the coming weeks.
