The search for a new CEO has begun

Following major failures: Sonos CEO Steps Down

The disastrous launch of the new app is presumed to be one of the reasons.

Patrick Spence, CEO of Sonos since 2017, has resigned with immediate effect after a period of criticism, primarily related to the launch of a new mobile app in May. This launch is described as "catastrophic" and "significantly failed" by several sources, according to the publication The Verge. Users reported bugs and missing important features that were present in the previous app, leading to great frustration and negative feedback.

The failed launch is seen as the direct cause of Spence's resignation. Although Spence has led Sonos through periods of success with several product launches, recent setbacks, centered around the app, have apparently weighed more heavily.

In October, Sonos had promised to improve its product development, increase transparency, and implement measures to avoid similar problems in the future. Despite these promises, the board has apparently not considered the measures sufficient, resulting in Spence's departure.

Tom Conrad, who has been an independent board member at Sonos since 2017, has been appointed as interim CEO. Conrad will lead the company until a permanent replacement is found. Sonos has announced that the search for a new CEO has begun immediately.
