In May, it's time for this year's big Google event, and the question is whether Microsoft will be involved.

Google has now, via its traditional puzzle, announced the dates for its annual developer conference, Google I/O. The event will take place on 20 and 21 May, and just like before, it will offer a mix of livestreamed keynotes, technical sessions, and even practical demonstrations.

A detail that might make this year's version of Google I/O particularly interesting is the plans for Android 16 to be launched much earlier than previous versions - rumours suggest they are aiming for 3 June - which would be roughly two weeks after the developer conference.

There have also been speculations that Google and Microsoft might present something jointly since Microsoft's Build conference takes place from 19-22 May.
