Save money: How to Lower the Price of Your Mobile Subscription

Renewing the subscription you already have can give you a lower monthly cost.

It is not as common as before, but sometimes you can get a cheaper mobile subscription by committing yourself. This is most common in connection with the purchase of a new phone, but it also occurs otherwise.

It is easy to see the advantage from the mobile operator's perspective when they lock in their customers. They do not have the same pressure to maintain competitive prices when other operators lower their prices, because customers still cannot switch.

It is mainly mobile operators that do not compete much on price that choose this, and examples are Telia and Telenor, and in some cases Tele2. For example, a subscription with Telia that costs 469 kronor per month without a lock in can cost 399 instead if you commit for 24 months. At Telenor, the difference is similar where a subscription can cost 549 without a contract, but can be obtained for 449 kronor with a 24-month commitment.
