How to Detect Sleep Apnea with Apple Watch

The function to detect sleep apnea is available in Apple Watch Series 10 but also in some older watches, where it must be activated manually.

Watch OS 11 actually gives existing watches a completely new feature otherwise unique to the new Apple Watch Series 10. It is about the watch's ability to detect sleep apnea. These are short, temporary breathing pauses during sleep.

For your Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2 to detect this, you must manually activate the feature. You do this in the Health app on your iPhone. In the overview there, scroll down to “Sleep Apnea Alerts” and select “Set Up”.

It requires measurements to be taken over several nights for the watch to be able to warn about sleep apnea, one or a few nights are not enough.
