Technology in iPhone 16e uncover better battery life in the next iPhone

The new modem is not only more energy-efficient but also provides other means for better battery life.

Apple has already talked about the extended battery life in the iPhone 16e, but now we also know more about what the new technology could mean for the battery life in upcoming iPhone models. The reason the iPhone 16e has better battery life than, for example, the regular iPhone 16 (26 hours instead of 22) has several causes according to Apple.

During the launch of the iPhone 16e, we learned that the iPhone 16e is equipped with Apple's new and self-developed modem C1, which means that Apple is not using Qualcomm's modem here as in all other iPhones. Besides the fact that the modem chip is power-efficient and adapted for Apple's other components, it is also smaller and therefore allows for a larger battery. We did not know how large that battery was until now when tests showed a battery with 3961 mAh, which is significantly more than the 3561 mAh found in the iPhone 16.

When Apple presented its new modem C1, they were clear that this is just the beginning. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that an upcoming thin iPhone 17 Air will also be equipped with the modem, and there has been speculation that Apple could integrate 5G into upcoming Mac computers as well as in Vision Pro.

Confirmed directly from Apple is that C1 will be further developed over several generations and in due course will be included in more products. Information to Ming-Chi Kuo indicates that Apple will also replace Wi-Fi chips that they currently purchase from Broadcom with their own developed replacements.
