A heart issue for the health-conscious

Garmin releases update with ECG

Selected models of Garmin's smartwatches can now perform ECG measurements as a complement to other health data.

Garmin announces that several of their watch models can now offer users ECG measurements, thanks to the latest regulatory approvals in the EU and Australia. With the new ECG app, you can record your heart rhythm at any time and look for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib). The app records a 30-second ECG and displays the result directly on the watch and in the Garmin Connect app.

When using the ECG app, your compatible Garmin smartwatch utilizes sensors to record the electrical signals that control the heart's beats, similar to a Lead I ECG. The app then analyzes the recording to identify signs of atrial fibrillation or confirm a normal sinus rhythm. You can also sync your results to Garmin Connect, where you get an overview of your ECG history and can create reports to share with your healthcare provider.

Garmin emphasizes that the ECG app is intended for adults over 22 years old and is not meant to replace traditional methods for diagnosis or treatment.

To start using the ECG app, you need the latest software update both in the Garmin Connect app and on your watch. Among the compatible devices are Garmin's Fenix E, Fenix 8, Venu 3, Venu 3S, and Enduro 3.
