Apple begins chip manufacturing in the USA

For the first time, Apple has started manufacturing chips for Apple Watch in the USA.

Apple has previously manufactured A16 Bionic chips at TSMC's factory near Phoenix, Arizona. It is now reported that the factory has also started manufacturing Apple's S9 chip, which was initially used in the Apple Watch Series 9, but is now used in the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which was launched at the same time.

The facility in Arizona is TSMC's first major semiconductor manufacturing facility outside Taiwan. The production capacity at the facility is still in an early stage with a production of about 10,000 so-called wafers per month distributed over Apple's A16 and S9 chips, as well as other companies including AMD.
