12.7-inch screen

Review: Lenovo Idea Tab Pro - Affordable larger model tablet

We miss out on an OLED screen, but the Idea Tab Pro is still a lot of tablet for the money.

When it comes to tablets with Android, Lenovo has a strong niche as a more affordable alternative to Samsung's tablets, regardless of whether you choose a cheaper or more expensive model, you often get more for your money.

Idea Tab Pro, with a price of just over 5000 kronor, is in the middle. While I'm testing it, I have the Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus, which has roughly the same dimensions and the same size screen but costs about twice as much, making it clear what you get with the Idea Tab Pro and what you might miss out on by choosing the cheaper model.

The format is definitely larger. Lenovo Idea Tab Pro has a 12.7-inch screen with 3K resolution and relatively thin bezels around the screen. The screen is of the LCD type, not OLED. I really think that an OLED screen makes a difference on tablets, but it is at least a good LCD screen with decent black levels and very little colour shift when you view it from different angles. The screen has a 144 Hz refresh rate, and even though LCD crystals cannot update as quickly, the increased frequency still makes a difference when you swipe and pan. The screen's main disadvantage (and the only difference compared to the screen in the Yoga Tab Plus) is that it is not particularly bright. With 400 nits maximum brightness, it can be difficult to use, for example, in public transport if the sun shines through the window.

Around the frame, there are four speakers. Lenovo is good at speaker sound, and they sound clear and full, but perhaps with slightly weak maximum volume this time.

Fast

There's nothing wrong with the performance. The tablet is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 8300, which delivers results in performance tests that definitely place the tablet among the faster ones. The Yoga Tab Plus with its Snapdragon 8 gen 3 is slightly faster, but I find it hard to notice the difference when using the tablet. Both respond as quickly as I could wish for and can handle even heavier games.

The tablet feels reasonably light for its size, and there's a fingerprint reader in the power button. A stylus is also included in the package. Other accessories you have to buy separately. There are protective cases and keyboards with Swedish characters available for purchase. This is, of course, a clear difference from the more expensive Yoga Pad Plus where a keyboard is included. You also need to buy a charger separately if you don't already have one.

When it comes to Android, Lenovo makes the Motorola phones, but the system in their tablets has a different user interface. It still remains close to the Android standard. Lenovo's own contribution is mainly a few custom apps, for example, to use the tablet as a second screen for the computer, and apps for taking notes and solving equations with the pen.

Lenovo calls the tablet AI-powered, but this refers to no proprietary AI functions, only those provided by Google, in the form of Gemini and Circle to Search.

Lenovo Idea Tab Pro meets or exceeds my expectations in all areas for the price range, where particularly the performance in relation to the price stands out. An excellent choice for those who want a tablet with a large screen but are not interested in spending over 10,000 kronor on it.

Questions and Answers

How are the cameras? The cameras are quite simple, and you don't need more in a tablet if you ask me.

How is the battery life? 6.5 hours of screen time is quite average for a tablet, but it has good standby time.

How fast can the tablet charge? If you buy a charger, it can charge with up to 45 watts.

An Alternative

Oneplus Pad 2 is a fast and affordable tablet with a slightly less elongated screen and a price a few thousand kronor more.
