Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 - our first impressions

Xiaomi has just launched the Xiaomi 15 series and after starting to test both phones over the past week, we have our first impressions ready.

Xiaomi chooses Barcelona to launch a range of new products. Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra have their global premiere here and Mobil is on site. We have been able to test the cameras in the city for several days to assess the news.

Xiaomi 15 Ultra is impressive in many ways, and crucial here is the one-inch sensor that provides a natural depth of field and really good dynamic range in the images. Now Xiaomi has also added a 200-megapixel telephoto lens that improves image quality with subjects at longer distances. The optical zoom is a fairly modest 4.3, but the sensor with such a high resolution further extends the capacity.

Impressive camera system

Yes, the main feature here is of course the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and its cameras, where Xiaomi together with Leica has further developed what is possible in a mobile when it comes to cameras. This year, the design has also been inspired by classic Leica cameras with a back in fibreglass and faux leather. In addition to the appearance of my test unit, there are also variants in white and black.

Last year was the first time the Ultra model was fully launched in Sweden, and if the Xiaomi 14 Ultra then surpassed the competitors by far, the development in relation to that is a bit less now. Since the Ultra before that never came to Sweden, it set a bit of a new standard, and now they are building on that. Compared to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, the 200-megapixel telephoto camera is a new addition, and moreover, the camera is supposed to take in more light than its predecessor, more than double.

The Xiaomi 15, on the other hand, is a slightly smaller flagship phone with good cameras as well, but it is not exactly small. The format is roughly like the iPhone 16 Pro.

Performance and new fingerprint sensor

Both the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Ultra have Android 15 and Xiaomi's Hyper OS 2. They both run Qualcomm's top chip Snapdragon 8 Elite, like virtually all other Android flagships.

This makes the phones feel really fast. This also applies to the fingerprint sensor, which uses ultrasound. A new cooling system in both phones also ensures that they do not feel too warm even when they have to work hard for a long time, as they have had to do in our performance tests.

Xiaomi HyperAI

Both phones naturally come with a number of different AI services that provide the ability to expand images, manage text, and interpret voice recordings. Additional AI features will be available in March in the form of a software update.

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra has a recommended price of 18,000 kronor and the Xiaomi 15 costs 12,000.
