When Oneplus released its phone Oneplus Open, it was a strong entry into the foldable phone market, which led many to start looking for a successor. However, this is not something that will appear in 2025.

It is the company's product manager Vale Gu who, in a post on the OnePlus community forum, wrote about the success of the original device and emphasised its industry recognition and strong reception among users. According to Gu, Oneplus has nevertheless decided to skip a new foldable in 2025, citing a need to "recalibrate" and focus on broader innovation.

The announcement that there will not be a new foldable until at least 2026 raises some questions about Oneplus's future plans. Rumours had previously speculated that Oneplus and parent company Oppo would shift focus away from foldable devices, although Oneplus has consistently dismissed this. Leaks have also indicated that Oneplus Open 2 would be launched in the first half of 2025.
