Uninterrupted 5G on the train

Major investment to provide uninterrupted 5G on Swedish trains

Now the entire Southern and Western main lines will get better coverage and capacity with 5G.

Telia announces that it is investing hundreds of millions of kronor to eliminate all white spots along Sweden's busiest railway routes. Together with SJ and the measurement company Umlaut, Telia has identified areas with poor coverage and now intends to fill these with expanded 5G infrastructure.

In the first phase, Telia is focusing on the routes Stockholm-Gothenburg and Stockholm-Malmö. By 2025, approximately 50 new and existing mobile base stations are planned to be equipped with both 4G and 5G networks, and the goal is to offer uninterrupted connectivity along all railway routes in Sweden by 2030.

In parallel with Telia's investment, the Swedish Transport Administration will implement measures to develop and increase the mobile network's capacity in mountains and tunnels. SJ also contributes by upgrading the train windows to radio-transparent, which improves signal reception on board.
