When one battle is not enough

Bluesky sets sights on Instagram

With the new service Flashes, X competitor Bluesky also takes on Instagram.

The rapidly growing social media platform Bluesky is now introducing a new feature that they hope will attract Instagram users. The standalone app is called Flashes and is intended as an alternative for those who appreciate photo and video sharing.

With Flashes, users can post either up to four images or a one-minute video clip per post. These limitations mirror those on Bluesky, creating a unified experience between the platforms. All content shared via Flashes is automatically published on Bluesky as well, and comments are synchronized between the two platforms. This means that users can interact seamlessly regardless of which app they use.

The plan is to launch a public beta version of Flashes publicly next week.

There are also plans to launch a similar app in the future that focuses solely on video clips, which would put Bluesky in direct competition with popular video platforms like TikTok.
